Turnstar physical access solutions secure MTN head office in Johannesburg
MTN’s head office in Roodepoort, Johannesburg is a busy hub for new customers seeking mobile solutions and technical support, and a large number of employees. Maintaining security levels, without hindering the flow of vehicular traffic, requires a fine balance between functionality and user-friendliness. The combination of Turnstar Velocity barriers and Turnstar Velocity Raptor spike vehicle barriers fulfils both these requirements.
“We recently supplied 16 of our 3-metre Velocity barriers and nine Velocity Raptor spike vehicle barriers – in a mixture of 3- and 5-metre barrier arm lengths – to MTN to control the ingress and egress of employee and customer traffic at their headquarters,” says Craig Sacks, MD of Turnstar.
All barrier cabinets have a unique MTN vinyl wrap in the company’s striking yellow and white corporate branding. “We provide cabinets in a number of standard finishes that include mild steel or 3CR12 stainless steel with UV-resistant exterior grade powder coating; or 304 or 316 grade brushed stainless steel. We also offer a variety of colour finishes and where required, we match the cabinet finish to the organisation’s specific branding in a high-quality and durable vinyl wrap,” says Sacks.
The Velocity Raptor takes safety to new levels with the integrated optic LED light strip in its boom. “This LED light strip is highly visible and illuminates in either red or green. When the LED strip is red, the boom remains in the closed position and the double-sided spikes remain in the raised position. When the LED is illuminated in green, the boom arm is in the raised position and the spikes are in the lowered position. This double layer of security provides an extremely high-level security solution,” says Sacks.
The Velocity automatic industrial vehicle barrier, which uses SwiftDrive technology, also includes the OPTIC LED light strip in its boom and is ideal for areas with high volumes of vehicle throughput that require safe, high-speed operation. Adding to the safety features is the integrated dual safety loop detector and an input for any external sensor; the infrared beam transmitter and receiver kit; and the photoelectric, non-invasive diffuse sensor.
“Load shedding and unplanned power outages do not present a problem for MTN as the built-in battery backup, with battery protection, ensures uninterrupted operation. The system is also designed to operate with solar powered systems, should this be required. MTN can expect many years of extended operation from the Velocity barrier, due to a number of durability features. By replacing high-maintenance tension springs with adjustable compression springs for barrier arm balancing, we have ensured longevity,” says Sacks.
