High-Spec Access Control for a National Logistics Leader
Liebens Logistics, a respected name in South African supply chain and freight management, recently embarked on a comprehensive security and access control upgrade at its Cape Town head office. With a reputation for operational excellence and innovation, the company required a robust solution that would not only meet high-security standards but also integrate seamlessly with its corporate aesthetics. Turnstar was selected to design, manufacture and install a turnkey system for both vehicular and pedestrian access.
Vehicle Access: Velocity Barriers with Advanced Technology
The external perimeter was secured with the installation of four Velocity automatic vehicle barriers, each with a 4 metre arm and finished in a custom charcoal powder coat to match the architectural design of the facility. The Velocity barrier is equipped with advanced BLDC (brushless DC) geared motor technology, offering fast, reliable, and maintenance-free operation with precise speed and force control. This ensures long-term durability and efficient traffic management even in high-volume logistics environments.
Each barrier also features an LED optic arm, providing clear, high-visibility signalling to drivers—particularly valuable during low-light or high-traffic periods. This feature enhances both safety and operational clarity at entry and exit points.
Pedestrian Perimeter Control: TITAN Full Height Turnstile
To control pedestrian access at the site’s perimeter, a TITAN 4 full height single turnstile was installed. Renowned for its robust construction, the TITAN is engineered to withstand continuous use in industrial environments. Its mechanical locking system ensures secure, one-at-a-time access for authorised personnel.
Reception Security: Kinetic Speedgate with Seamless Biometric Integration
For the head office reception, Turnstar provided a double lane Kinetic speedgate, incorporating:
- A 600mm-wide standard lane, and
- A 900mm-wide special needs lane.
The Kinetic speedgate combines a high speed BLDC motor with a tailgating detection system and integrated safety sensors. This ensures rapid throughput, safety compliance, and unauthorised access prevention in one sophisticated unit.
A key challenge was the integration of MorphoWave biometric readers. The client’s architect insisted on a completely flush and seamless design. Turnstar responded by customising the stainless steel cabinet to house the readers internally—eliminating any external mounting and preserving the refined reception aesthetic.
