The Maputo Toll Road recently underwent a major upgrade to strengthen its access control and revenue protection systems.
Turnstar Systems supplied and installed 40 x 3m Velocity Raptor spikes, each integrated with Optic traffic lights for clear driver guidance. The spikes were recessed into the roadway and positioned 2.5m after the toll barrier, a strategic design required to prevent tampering. Previously, motorists would exit their vehicles and manually lift the toll barrier arm to avoid paying fees — a serious challenge to toll operations.
Each spike unit was supplied in hot dip galvanised racks for maximum corrosion resistance, while the spikes themselves were powder coated in a highly visible yellow to ensure clear deterrence and safety. Engineered for performance, the Raptor spikes operate at high speed, lowering within just 0.8 seconds, allowing seamless integration with toll traffic flow.
This complex installation demanded precision and reliability, and Turnstar was the obvious choice.
