Turnstiles and Man-Trap Cubicles prescribed for Dis-Chem
Dis-Chem started out as a small pharmacy in Mondeor, South of Johannesburg in 1978. The company was founded on the ethos of old-fashioned family values and the group is still privately owned and run by the original founders.
Rated as the country’s best pharmacy chain by Professional Management Review, Best Pharmacy, Best Medical Supply Store and Best Health Store in both The Star Your Choice and Pretoria News Readers Survey, as well as in the Leisure Options Readers Choice Awards, Dis-Chem is clearly focused on quality and customer service. Dis-Chem stores have established themselves as a ‘destination store’, offering customers a myriad competitively priced products for all their health and beauty needs.
Supplying over 71 stores countrywide, the company boasts a massive warehouse and head office in Midrand, Gauteng. When the warehouse opened in 2009, Turnstar was contracted to supply 12 Triumph 4 full height turnstiles to accommodate the large number of employees and suppliers accessing this multi-million Rand development.
To cater for demand of its extremely large range of health and beauty products, Dis-Chem later contracted Archstone Construction to expand the existing facilities to 28 000 m2. The upmarket and highly functional operation called for a further seven Triumph 4 full height turnstiles as well as nine large Man-Trap security booths for installation at the various entrances to the facilities.
With a huge investment in stock, Dis-Chem requires high levels of security within its Midrand campus. The full-height turnstiles provide seamless and accurate access for the high volume of employees entering the premises from the taxi drop and car park areas. The security booths are ideally situated at strategic exits in order to ensure a smooth traffic flow while concurrently ensuring that all employees are searched by a security guard.
The Triumph 4 full height turnstiles are designed for complete durability and reliability. Constructed from mild steel with UV resistant polyester exterior, these turnstiles are ideal for use in even the harshest climatic conditions. Dis-Chem is assured of reliable operation of the turnstiles, even after repeated use and this has further strengthened the relationship between Turnstar and Dis-Chem. This reliability is in great part due to the high quality levels adhered to during the manufacturing process, where CNC machinery and robotic welding combine to produce turnstiles of world-class quality.
Turnstar turnstiles are designed to integrate with access control and time & attendance systems. This allows Dis-Chem to not only control the flow of traffic into its facilities, but to also accurately manage the payroll of its many employees.
The full height Turnstar Man-Trap Cubicle, also known as a security booth, marries aesthetics with high-level security access control. Designed to carefully blend with Dis-Chem’s upmarket appeal, the Man-Trap Cubicle is ideal for use in demanding applications. The model selected for the Dis-Chem facilities allows for comfortable access by pedestrians utilising wheelchairs and pushing prams.
The double door design on the Man-Trap Cubicle includes a heavy-duty hydraulic door closer and recessed 500 kg monitored magnetic lock, with mortice lock for night locking. Manufactured in a steel frame and structure, the Man-Trap Cubicle is impervious to sagging and warping, making it a completely maintenance-free solution.
